Pauses & rhythm: dancing the contrast in the music
A seminar from 15:00 – 18:00 o’clock

All the big orchestras in the fourties of the last century had so much success because they reinvented the sheet music they played every night by arranging it differently and also using a different phrasing to give the music another colour. That made it very exciting to listen and dance to!

We can do the same in our dance by switching from still pauses that we fill by moving only on the spot to rhythmical steps as they are offered by the music we hear. We can go even one step further by dancing that pauses and rhythmical movements even if they are *not* in the music. That makes us part of the orchestra and hence part of the music.

Milonga workshop @ World Tango Congress – 22-24.02.2019

With Stefan & Marian

Milonga is the Mother of Tango they say. Simple, down to earth, monotonous, some even find it boring.

I myself find it rather a walk on the beach on a drizzly autumn afternoon. Such a joy walking on your own!

When you arrive at the beach you will be welcomed by the rhythm of the sea. You join the monotonous sound of the swell …. first heavily stamping through the loose sand. But soon you reach the solid sand where the flood has washed over and your steps become lighter. You can enjoy the firm and yet elastic sand and keep going in the rhythm of the waves. Every now and then you play with the rolling water – you follow it with small dribbling steps back and forth … giggling when you get wet toes again because you are surprised by a wave bigger than expected. The game of the waves becomes your game and you dance light-footed with them.

This is Milonga for us! Come and enjoy 🙂

For more information on this rather unique event where Traditional Tango meets Neo Tango in a First Class Kurhaus on the beach visit their website.

There are also Facebook events for both rooms: Traditional Tango and Neo Tango

Werk aan de Winkel 2019

An irregular series of extra long workshops with Stefan & Marian

Werk aan de Winkel 2019
These workshops are built around one specific subject which will be treated in depth. The participants get an insight into the basic structure of the subject and have the time to explore the possibilities how to play with it. The workshops are organized in different places in The Netherlands.

Werk aan de Winkel

Friday February 15th @ El Corte, Nijmegen

Imploding turns

Turns are most of the times expanding movements that require quite some space. Imploding turns on the other hand are a way to initiate a turn towards the center of the leader which do not demand a lot of space but create plenty of dynamics to play with.

This makes them an ideal instrument for crowded salons.

Come & join us!

The Berlin Connection: The Horn of Plenty – 15-17.03.2019

With Daniela & Raimund || Stefan & Marian

The Berlin Connection: The Horn of Plenty

Welcome at the weekend seminar“The Horn of Plenty”

Approach every dance as if you prepare a meal.
Choose fresh ingredients from the abundance Tango has to offer, spice it up with delicious herbs and enjoy 🙂

The rich taste palate of Tango

Tango music offers us a universe of atmospheres, tastes and textures. Every orchestra has its own texture and every tango touches a certain feeling. As dancers we are constantly working to translate into our dance what the music tells us. Dancers are transformers, they mediate between music and dance. In fact, dancers share the music experience with their dance partner and dance their story together in dialogue with the music. The question is how to find a way in this complex constellation and how to give the creative processes that go along with it as much space as possible. In the plentiful world of Tango music, we are not quickly running out of taste.

Imagine a tango as a beautiful dish. All your senses are addressed, you taste, you smell, you feel. The dish is prepared in a certain way with the necessary ingredients which gives it that specific taste and texture, and it is further enriched with sublime herbs. The entire cooking process leads to a result that we can then experience and enjoy. Parallels can be found in the music and how we dance to it.

This seminar is completely set up to unveil the richness and complexity in Tango music and dance. It is often said that we have to make it exciting, for ourselves and for our partner. But how? For two days we work on the taste of Tango, the aromas that rise from the kitchen of Tango, the musical herbs and the oh so necessary basic ingredients for a tasty dance. Dance as if you were preparing a delicious dish.

What about food?
