Milonga workshop @ World Tango Congress – 22-24.02.2019

With Stefan & Marian

Milonga is the Mother of Tango they say. Simple, down to earth, monotonous, some even find it boring.

I myself find it rather a walk on the beach on a drizzly autumn afternoon. Such a joy walking on your own!

When you arrive at the beach you will be welcomed by the rhythm of the sea. You join the monotonous sound of the swell …. first heavily stamping through the loose sand. But soon you reach the solid sand where the flood has washed over and your steps become lighter. You can enjoy the firm and yet elastic sand and keep going in the rhythm of the waves. Every now and then you play with the rolling water – you follow it with small dribbling steps back and forth … giggling when you get wet toes again because you are surprised by a wave bigger than expected. The game of the waves becomes your game and you dance light-footed with them.

This is Milonga for us! Come and enjoy 🙂

For more information on this rather unique event where Traditional Tango meets Neo Tango in a First Class Kurhaus on the beach visit their website.

There are also Facebook events for both rooms: Traditional Tango and Neo Tango

Imploding turns

Turns are most of the times expanding movements that require quite some space. Imploding turns on the other hand are a way to initiate a turn towards the center of the leader which do not demand a lot of space but create plenty of dynamics to play with.

This makes them an ideal instrument for crowded salons.

Come & join us!

A seminar 19:00 – 21:00 o’clock

Spiral movements are an essential part of Tango Argentino.

It starts in our own body where torsion plays an important role in ochos & giros and of course continues in the interaction between the partners who continuously move around a common axis. In this seminar we look first how spiral movements work in the own body and how you can use them to be able to move with complete freedom in close embrace.

Next we will study the possibilities how we can apply those insights to revive our turns in close embrace and give them another spin.

Here you can find more information about Esquina del Tango in Erfurt.

“Dynamik in Drehungen” @ tango mio halle e.V. – 06.09.2018

Worskhop Halle 06-09-2018

With Stefan & Marian

The Tango school “El Corte” in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, under the lead of Eric Jeurissen can be seen as the crib of the European Tango and the Mother of all Tango-Marathons. Our guest-teachers Stefan Wimmer and his dance partner Marian feel and spread the spirit of this highly profound Tango which is accessible for dancers of all age and experience levels. They define themselves with a very particular, at times minimalistic and unorthodox-traditional style which in the meantime has been adopted by a lot of Milonguer@s. But they also define the Tango anew with their unique and fresh approach. We’ve got the opportunity to undergo an example of their teaching methods and their well-travelled but still open and down-to-earth Tango. Join us with our open class called “Dynamik in Drehungen”.

Staccato & legato: musical terms brought to life with cortados & paradas
A seminar from 15:00 – 18:00 o’clock
Staccato is an essential rhythmical element of the Tango Argentino. The short strong notes provide a swinging and lively character to the music and stimulate the dancers to keep moving. besides simple but rhythmically diverse shifts of weight it is above all the Ocho cortado which is suited to express the staccato feeling in the dance. Albeit being a very common movement the Ocho cortado due to his complexity still is a challenge which – executed correctly – can provide quite some surprises.
Legato on the other hand facilitates the dancers with a lot of calmness with the tied and connected character of the music. It offers them the possibility to integrate a moment of stillness into their dance paired with elegance. There is one stylistic element which is especially suited to honour those precious moments of stillness in the music: Paradas – little pauses in the dance introduced with a gentle stop. The continuation after those quiet moments is initiated with Pasadas – the occasion for followers to render their dance in a personal way and give it a special expression.
